Adopting Your British Shorthair Kitten
Step 1 : Reserve Your Kitten
Contact us through our contact form and let us know:
What kind of kitten you're looking for (gender, color, coat type)
If you're interested in a kitten from a current or future litter
We typically have blue and lilac shorthair boys and girls, though we occasionally have longhairs and other colors.
A $300 deposit reserves your spot and applies to the final price of your kitten. If we don’t currently have kittens available, you can place a deposit to join the waitlist for an upcoming litter.
Step 2 : Meet Your Kitten (optional)
We believe in raising well-socialized kittens, and early interaction plays a big role. While our kittens receive daily handling and human contact, we also offer:
In-person visits (by appointment)
Live video calls to meet your kitten remotely
If you'd like to meet a kitten before deciding, we’re happy to work with you on an arrangement that fits your needs.
Step 3 : Adoption Day!
Kittens are typically ready to go home around 12 weeks of age, though timing can vary slightly.
You have two options for receiving your kitten:
Pick up your kitten from our cattery in Portland, Oregon.
Arrange for personal delivery across the U.S. We hand-deliver our kittens in-cabin, never as cargo, and we subsidize part of the cost in order to make it the same amount or less than you would typically pay for shipping. It's so much nicer when these little ones have a human traveling companion.
Upon adoption, you will also receive:
CFA & TICA registration paperwork
Health records and vaccination history
A sample of your kitten’s current food to help with the transition
All of our kittens are vet checked and up to date on age-appropriate immunizations at the time of transition to their new homes. Please communicate with us regarding your preferences for immunizations and flea prevention treatments. We want to be sure to honor your preference and work with your veterinarian. Microchip administration can be arranged, upon request.
Recent Well Baby Checkup at the veterinarian’s office
Step 4 : Welcome Home
Your kitten will arrive litter-trained, socialized, healthy, dewormed, with age-appropriate vaccinations, and tested negative for common illnesses. We do not spay or neuter our kittens before adoption as we believe British Shorthairs develop best when altered around 9 months old.
Before you bring your kitten home, please make sure to have a cozy place for them to sleep, litter & litter box, food, toys, a scheduled vet appointment, and of course a warm and loving environment.
And finally, please take lots of pictures and share them with us! We love to see our happy kittens thriving in their new homes, and we are here to support you through the transition.
